Flash floods are a common problem in parts of Arizona and Utah and each year it seems lives are lost to the flooding.

These are photos I shot from Big Water, UT today looking East toward Page, AZ and Lake Powell showing a typical afternoon monsoon weather pattern. The water falling in the right of the photos is over an area which contains Antelope Canyon, the worlds most photographed Slot Canyon.

The post below is not only about Antelope Canyon but also about the lives that have been lost there in flooding.

They have stayed on their own side of the fence for many years, but manhy of us Big Water permanents will remember times when the cows would bust through and have a hayday running through town bumping into cars and boats! Always ringing in my ears is the young cowboys voice one morning - about ten years ago, chasing a run-a-way and standing on my shed....

"ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you but could you get back in your house - you have a couple of angry cows over here by your boat and I wouldn't wannnna see ya hurt or nothing like that. I'll holler at y'all when it is safe to come out"

Safe ended up being about two hours later :)
